Our Mission
Hawaii Island Pride Project was created
in June of 2007.
Collecting
information on the needs of the LGBT Queer community on the Big Island. Understanding the needs of the "local" community
as a whole. Reports indicated a great need for a community out-reach center for the LGBT Queer community. Here at Hawaii Island
Pride Project we are on a mission to create a safe diverse LGBT Queer community of family. Ohana is where our hearts are.
Educating the community on Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer human rights issues. We offer several social events
to cross the bridge of diversity. Picnics at the beach, snorkel / dive, bowling league, golf and other exciting activities.
Hawaii Island Pride Project main goal at this time is our community
center funding. We will offer a variety of programs. We will have shared resources with all the Non Profit community organizations
including and not limited to the HIV / AIDS Foundation, MCC Church, UH Pride, DOH
Hawaii
Island Pride Project plans include HIV / AIDS awareness and testing, Youth Outreach programs, Special Interest Groups. We
will offer movie nights, sports activities for a youth program, Sliding Fee scale counseling. These are just a few plans for
this community center.
Our mission is to further promote the interests
of our organization and our members to the community. We strive to make a difference by educating the public and expanding
our reach to the community needs.. The purpose of this organization is to increase awareness and diversity for the GLBT Queer
community.
Our
common interests are our common goals. We hope to add new members so we will be able to grow and expand our communication
lines with the community. We also would like to build strong relationships with our community. By developing relationships
and friendships, the organization will become even stronger. Together we can build a center we can all be proud of.
Hawaii Island Pride Project is making a difference in the "Pride" LGBT Queer community of The Big Island Hawaii.
It's all about the community coming together
